When the committee charged with helping revise the state's shoreline management policy holds a public hearing in Charleston on Tuesday, Rob Rettew, whose father's beach cabin was lost to erosion, plans to be there to step up to the microphone.
Rettew, president of the Hunting Island Beach Preservation Association, saw the destructive power of shoreline erosion firsthand when the small cottage his father built in 1960 on the south side of Hunting Island was demolished late last year.

Letter from SCPRT General Counsel |
September 3, 2008
This is a letter from BJ Willoughby (General Counsel for SCPRT) to Gary T. Kubie (Beaufort County Administrator) stating the following in the letter, "...there are a number of privately owned cabins on leased lots in Hunting Island State Park in Beaufort County that are very close to collapse due to the severe erosion experienced at Hunting Island during the last several weeks....We believe that these structures may not survive the hurricane season and could create serious damage, destruction or injury" |
